Methods Of Treating Infertility

Infertility can be described as the inability to concieve after a period of 12 months unprotected intercourse. It can be quite distressing for married couples when one partner is diagnosed as infertile.

Infertility has many causes and occurs in both genders. Being diagnosed infertile does not mean the end to your dreams of having a baby. There are different methods how it can be treated.

The use of drugs is the most common method of treating infertility. These drugs inhibit or promote the production of hormones responsible for pregnancy. Common drugs used are clomid and gonaditrophins.

Other drugs that are used are antibiotics incase the cause of infertility is infections. Some of the infections that can cause infertility are thyroid disease, cervical infections and tumors.

In some cases, infertility may have to be treated through surgery. Such cases include fibroids in the uterus and blockage of the fallopian tubes and urethra.

There are some natural methods that have also been proven to successfully treat infertility. One such method is acupuncture. There is no precise explanation as to how it works. However, scientists believe that it promotes the production of hormones responsible for pregnancy.

You can also opt for intrauterine insemination. This is for cases where cervical infection produces mucus which kills the sperm. This procedure involves introducing the sperm artificially into the womb.

When all the above treatment methods have failed, the last option you can take is assisted reproductive technologies.

These technologies are quite expensive but have the highest possibility of success. They include intracytoplasmic sperm injection and invitro fertilization.

Although infertility is now common than before, there are some measures that you can take to reduce the risk. The most important is living a healthy lifestyle which includes eating right and avoiding substances such as tobacco and alcohol.
