Treating Infertility

Infertility is the condition where a woman is unable to conceive or maintain a pregnancy in a period of 12 months unprotected intercourse. This is a condition that causes much distress for many couples. However, depending on the cause of infertility, treatments are available.

Tracking the woman’s monthly cycle is one of the simplest ways of treating the condition. This is recommended when both partners have been found to be fertile. By doing so, they are able to determine the time when the woman is likely to conceive after intercourse.

Using drugs is another method used. Infertility can be as a result of hormone imbalance, infection or even immune reaction. Fertility drugs are administered to help the woman achieve a hormonal balance and conceive.

In case the infertility is due to infections, the necessary drugs are given to treat it. There are some cases where the body’s immune system attacks and kills the sperm. Immune suppressing drugs are administered to prevent this.

Surgery is recommended for cases where infertility is as a result of blockage of the fallopian tubes or sperm duct. It is also used in cases such as endometriosis.

Egg donation is another infertility treatment method which is used when the woman is found to produce low quality eggs. A healthy egg is introduced into her uterus and then fertilized.

Eating a healthy diet and change of lifestyle. There are nutrients which have been found to help in preventing infertility as well as treating it. These include vitamins. Eating a healthy diet is therefore recommended to enable you to have a baby.

Lifestyles are another factor that largely contributes to infertility today. Smoking and drinking as well as stress contribute to infertility. A change in lifestyle will help in treating infertility caused by these.

There are many more methods that you can use to treat infertility. Remember, infertility does not necessarily mean that you can never have a baby.
